Apply for a place

If you would like to apply for a place for your child aged 2 to 6 year old please submit a completed registration form directly to poianalearning@gmail.com

We encourage all parents to come for a show round. This gives you a chance to meet us, see our learning environment and learn more about our ethos.

The following documents are needed to complete the registration process, after your place has been confirmed:  signed registration form, child’s birth certificate, parents’ I.Ds, doctor’s note for joining the kindergarten community.

Parents wishing to apply for a place at POIANA Learning Center are advised to register as early as possible. Entry is non-selective and on a first come first served principle.

We are proud to have an inclusive setting that supports all children as they take increasing responsibility for themselves and their actions, and consider the welfare and well-being of others.

We aim to provide an environment in which there is acceptable behaviour, non-aggressive behavior and where children learn to respect themselves, other people and their environment.

Siblings are given priority to register or on the waiting list.

FAQs

At what age do you accept children?

We welcome children from 2 to 6 year old

When are fees payable?

Fees are payable by the 20th of the month for the following month. For example you would pay fees for May by the 20 th of April. Fees are due from September to the last day of June.

* If enough requests Summer School could be organised.

How do you monitor progress?

Observations are made daily and reports of these are made available to parents each semester prior to individual parent-teacher meetings

If my child is ill can they stay indoors?

Outdoor play is an important feature of what we do. All children will go outside every day. If your child is too ill to play outside then they are too ill to be at kindergarten

What happens if:

  • My child has been unwell in the night?

If your child has had two loose stools, has been vomiting or is running a temperature we ask that you keep your child at home for at least 24h as they will feel too poorly to attend. They may also be showing early symptoms of a contagious illness. Please phone us in the morning and let us know you will not be coming in.  If you see the Pediatrician or Family Doctor please let us know what they say. If your child has a contagious illness e.g. chicken pox please telephone the nursery immediately. It is usually fine for your child to attend nursery if they are teething.

  • My child is unwell at kindergarten?

If your child develops a temperature, has two loose stools or is sick we will telephone you straight away and ask you to come and collect them. We will keep them in a calm environment with a staff member keeping a close eye on them until you arrive. If they have a temperature and you have given consent we will administer Nurofen. We monitor your child’s temperature every 15 minutes until you arrive.

  • My child has an accident?

Our staff are trained in pediatric first aid and will give the necessary treatment. Most accidents are minor cuts, scrapes or bumps. We keep a record of the accident and tell you about it at the end of the day. If the accident is serious we would telephone you straight away.

  • We are going on holiday?

Please let us know if you are going away on holiday or will not be attending. If we have not heard from you two days in a row, we will call you by 11 am on the 2nd day to check whether you are coming in later/are on holiday/or if your child is unwell. Telling us about your holidays means we don’t interrupt you while you are away.

  • I have to send someone else at short notice to collect my child?

We ask you to send us a message with the ID of the person who will be collecting your child. They will be asked to provide identification before we will let your child leave with them. We will never let your child leave with anyone who is not on the pick up list or is unannounced/unidentified by you.

  • My child doesn’t eat their meal?

We adopt a common sense approach in our kindergarten and the staff are trained to recognise the difference between a child that is full, being fussy or coming down with something.  If necessary we would offer an alternative to ensure the child does not go hungry. Our menus offer the children a healthy balanced diet. Eating as a family group encourages them to try new foods and to clean their plates.

  • My child doesn’t sleep at kindergarten?

As part of our settling in process we find out all about your child’s routine and will support that while they are at kindergarten. We understand that you will have worked very hard at home to establish good sleep habits and aim to continue this while they are with us. Sometimes in the early weeks of being at kindergarten sleep routines can go ‘off schedule’ as children can be very excited by their new surroundings and all the activities on offer.  We ask you to bring a toy or comforter which makes them feel at home in their bed.
